Tutorial: Working with Multiple Windows

Like most things in Photoshop, there are many, many ways to do everything – this is one way to do it!

At first I found myself very frustrated with Photoshop not being able to see more than one file open at once. It really is easy, once you follow a few guidelines.

Figure-01 shows multiple windows open, the layout I’m working on in the top part of the screen, various elements open ready to drag on to my layout.

Screenshot is Photoshop CS

Figure-02 shows some of the buttons which will affect your view – if you hover over them they will tell you what they do.

these three are the same buttons as stated above: or or

On the top right I have enlarged the 3 buttons you will se at the top of your active window – clicking MINIMIZE will hide it at the bottom of your screen, MAXIMIZE will HIDE any other open windows, CLOSE - only choose this one if you have saved or are certain you are done with it!

Bottom right – these three icons are at the TOP right hand corner of your screen, they are visible if you have chosen “Maximize” in the above and are small and gray. Their functions are the same, except restore, click this to bring it down again, you need it this way to see any other open windows.

Figure 3: This is the Photo Bin these are all of the open files you are working with (all your stock files and your working document)

Figure 4: if you cascade view - - your windows they will look like this!
