About BMS-Station NJHS (From the BMS Student Handbook)
Purpose:
National Junior Honor Society is established to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding qualities in scholarship, citizenship, willingness to serve others, leadership and character. The organization provides students the opportunity to be of service to the school and the community, as well as to become involved in social activities.
Membership: To be eligible for membership, students must have and maintain a grade point of 3.7 or higher for their 7th grade academic year only. Please note: 6th grade performance is not factored into the GPA requirement. Students that are eligible for initial membership will be notified the first week of school during their 8th grade year.
Students can also qualify for the society by earning a combined cumulative grade point average of 3.7 for their 7th and 8th grade years at the end of the 1st semester of the 8th grade year. Students that are eligible for membership at this time will be notified during the 3rd week of the 3rd quarter.
In addition to the academic requirements above demonstrating scholarship, any student eligible for NJHS must also have the approval of the staff of Barrington Middle School-Station Campus to confirm the remaining core values of the society: citizenship, leadership, character, and service. All activities, expectations, and requirements are defined in the BMS-Station NJHS Bi-Laws.
